Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
Today we continue to climb the ladder of the beatitudes by arriving at vs. 8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” As we are climbing this ladder we are seeing that the condition that God blesses leads to a fulfilled promise that leads to yet another condition. Brokenness or being poor in spirit ushers us into the Kingdom of heaven; coming into the kingdom of heaven, receiving the grace of salvation leads us to mourning which God kindly meets with comfort. Being comforted by God creates meekness, a condition of humble courage and obedience which promises the inheritance of the earth. That inheritance of influence and gain for the increase of the Kingdom of God creates a hunger and thirst for righteousness that God alone can and does fill and being filled by God births an awe over the wonder of receiving God’s mercy and a willing desire to pour out His mercy to others. In this way the merciful obtain mercy not merely for themselves but for the increase of the kingdom of God by pouring out the mercy that they have received. That brings us to today’s text, the receiving of mercy leads to purity of heart and ultimately to the fulfilled promise of seeing God. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
