On Sunday, August 5th, our friend Minister Avery Covington, from Wayside Community Church was our speaker. When we are expecting someone to come over to our house for a visit, we often spend a lot of time cleaning up because we want everything to be in order for their visit. We often do the same thing with Christ because we feel it is our job to get the “dirty” places in our lives, especially our hearts, “clean” so that we can “visit” with Him. But Christ is not seeking a place of visitation, but rather He desires habitation. In 2 Kings 4:8-16, we read the story of the woman who did not just invite Elisha over for a visit, but prepared a room for him complete with a lamp, chair, table, and a bed so that he would have a place of habitation in her home. Each of these items represents a piece of Christ’s desire for habitation in our own lives and what it is meant to look like, I pray that this morning our hearts would become more aware of our need for habitation with Christ.
