I Peter 3:18-22 contains what many have referred to as the most difficult New Testament passage to interpret. Peter has appealed to his readers to choose submission, even when it leads to suffering. Now he gives a reason, quite simply, because Jesus suffered for all. That statement is not one to cause guilt but to create faith, to remind us that Jesus did not simply suffer to get us to heaven but to restore us to relationship with the Father, fill us with the Holy Spirit and instill in us the faith that puts us in Christ. In the midst of this, Peter then speaks of Jesus preaching to the “spirits in prison” from the days of Noah, the salvation of eight souls through water and the power and importance of baptism.
Join us tomorrow night, July 11th, as we look at Jesus, ask some difficult questions and hopefully, through focusing on the character of God in the whole of Scripture, come to some conclusions about difficult verses that glorify Christ in such a way that it leads others to redemption. We will be meeting at 7:00 PM at the Kulynych’s home, 945 Bordentown Rd. in Burlington. We apologize but there is no child care provided for this gathering.
