In the midst of his first letter, as John was writing to the church of the importance and power of love, of faith and of obedience he made a short but powerful statement, “This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His commands are not burdensome”. My question for today is, if God’s commands are not burdensome, then why is it that life sometimes feels so heavy and overwhelming? I believe that there are probably several correct answers to this question, but today I hope to focus on one that is key for me, life becomes heavy when my perspective changes from God’s freeing commands to my binding assumptions. I pray that today we will find, through Scripture, the freeing power of walking in the path that God has set out for us, trusting Him with every breathe and believing that not only are all of His promises yes, but none of His commands are burdensome.
