In both Romans 12 and I Corinthians 12 the Apostle Paul tells us about the “gifts of the Holy Spirit”. The Corinthians passage gives us a list of things that Paul refers to while in Romans Paul seems to be much more concerned with following through with those gifts than with giving a list of what they are. So before we discuss what the gifts may be I believe we have to ask why they were given. In both of these passages, the focus is clear, unity of the Body of Christ. It amazes me to see that the very gifts that have been given to unite us have now often become the things that keep us divided. My prayer is that we will ask the Holy Spirit to teach us His heart and His desire for the gifts that He has given us and that we will choose to walk in obedience, humility and the great grace that each one of us has been given.
